Get help signing into iCloud
Before you begin, check the Apple System Status page to make sure there are no outages or scheduled maintenances currently affecting iCloud and make sure that you’re signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all of your devices.
If you can't remember your Apple ID or password
If you can't remember your Apple ID, check these settings and services to find it. If you've forgotten your Apple ID password, learn how to reset it.
If you get a message that your Apple ID is locked or disabled
If you or someone else enters your password, security questions, or other account information incorrectly too many times, your Apple ID automatically locks to protect your security and you can't sign in to any Apple services. Learn how to unlock your Apple ID.
If you can't sign in to iCloud.com

If you're not able to sign in using cellular data only
Make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or PC has a strong Internet connection and that you've turned on cellular data on your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings > Cellular or Mobile Data. If this setting is off, you might not be able to access your Apple ID and iCloud when not connected to a Wi-Fi network.
If you're having trouble receiving verification codes, or your verification code is rejected
Learn how to get a verification code and sign in to iCloud with two-factor authentication. If your device is running iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite or earlier, sign in using two-step verification instead.
If you see a Could Not Create Apple ID or Could Not Set Up iCloud message
If you see one of these messages, it means that you have exceeded the number of new Apple IDs you can set up with iCloud on a single device in one year. Learn what to do.
Other password prompts you might see
If you are repeatedly prompted to enter your Apple ID password on your Mac or iOS device
- If you have recently restored your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch from an iCloud backup, the restore may not have completed. Stay connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network and power source until the restore finishes. Follow these steps if iCloud Backup couldn't be completed or you can't restore.
- If you recently changed your Apple ID password, you might need to update your sign-in information with iCloud services you use. Make sure that each service is using your updated sign-in information on your device.
- Check if you have Automatic Downloads enabled. If there is content ready to be downloaded, you may be prompted to enter your Apple ID and password to continue. Learn how to resume interrupted downloads.
- If you are an organizer, parent, or guardian of a Family Sharing group, check if the prompt is a request from a child family member to make an iTunes Store purchase. You can then approve or decline the request.
If you want to sign in to a third-party app but your password is rejected
If you want to access your iCloud information from a third-party app, you need to use an app specific password. This helps protect your account by allowing you to sign in securely. Learn how to create and use app-specific passwords.
If you still need help
If you still need help signing in to iCloud, update your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, and your Mac to the latest version of macOS. See the iCloud system requirements for more information.
To participate in Family Sharing, all family members must have their own Apple ID. Children under 13* can't create an Apple ID on their own. However, the family organizer can provide verified parental consent and create an Apple ID on the child’s behalf in their family group.
If your child already has an Apple ID, you can add it to your family group and update their email address, date of birth, security questions, and more.
Check your payment method
Before you begin, make sure that you're using a supported payment method. You can check your payment method from your Apple ID account page. You can manage and change your payment method from your device.
To comply with child online privacy protection laws, you use the CVV, verification code sent via SMS, or security code from your payment method as part of providing your verified parental consent. If you do not have a supported payment method on file, you’ll be asked to change it to a supported payment method before you can continue. After you create the child's Apple ID, you can change back to a different payment method.
Create an Apple ID for your child
Use the steps below to create an Apple ID for your child, then add them to your family group. After you add your child to your family group, they will have their own Apple ID that they can use on any Apple device. Your email address is the rescue email address for your child’s account, and you can use it with the security questions you provided to reset a forgotten password.
If the child already has a Game Center account, but not an Apple ID, you don't need to create a new account for them. Just search for their nickname instead.
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Go to Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing > Add Family Member > Create a Child Account > Next. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud > Family.
- Enter your child's birthday and tap Next. Be sure to enter the correct date.
- Review the Parent Privacy Disclosure and tap Agree.
- Enter the requested information for your payment method and tap Next. If you don't have a payment method on file, you need to add one.
- Enter your child's name, tap Next, then create their Apple ID (username@icloud.com) and tap Next. Tap Create.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to set a password, choose security questions, and set up your child's account. Choose passwords and security questions that you can both remember.
- Turn on Ask to Buy to approve all iTunes Store, Apple Books, and App Store purchases initiated by your child. You will be responsible for all charges to your account. Tap Next.
- Review the Terms and Conditions. Tap Agree.
Mac
On your Mac with macOS Catalina:
- Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Family Sharing, then click Add Family Member.
- Select Create an Apple ID for a child who doesn't have an account and click Continue.
- Enter your child's birthday. Be sure to enter the correct date.
- Enter your child's Apple ID (username@icloud.com), first and last name, and password. You can also select the checkbox to Share your child's location with your family. Click Next.
- Enter the requested information for your payment method and click Agree. If you don't have a payment method on file, you need to add one.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to set a password, choose security questions, and set up your child's account. Choose passwords and security questions that you can both remember. You'll get an email confirmation after you create the Apple ID.
On your Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier:
- Go to Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Family Sharing > iCloud > Manage Family and click the Add button .
- Select Create an Apple ID for a child who doesn't have an account and click Continue.
- Enter your child's birthday. Be sure to enter the correct date.
- Enter your child's Apple ID (username@icloud.com), first and last name, and password, then click Continue.
- Enter the requested information for your payment method and click Agree. If you don't have a payment method on file, you need to add one.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to set a password, choose security questions, and set up your child's account. Choose passwords and security questions that you can both remember. You'll get an email confirmation after you create the Apple ID.
If your child has a Game Center account
If you want to add a child under 13* that already has a Game Center account, but not an Apple ID, follow these steps.
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 10.3 or later:
- Go to Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing > Add Family Member.
- Enter the child’s Game Center nickname.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
On your Mac with macOS Catalina:

- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Family Sharing.
- Click the Add button , then enter the child's Game Center nickname.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
On your Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier:
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
- Click Manage Family.
- Click the Add button , then enter the child's Game Center nickname.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
The child gets a message to enter their Game Center password. After they enter their password, the child is part of your Family Sharing group.

Manage Family Sharing settings
Children enjoy the same Family Sharing features as other family members and, by default, can access the same music, movies, TV shows, books, and apps. You can limit what content your child can access on the devices they use. Set Restrictions or Parental Controls on an iOS device, in iTunes, or on a Mac.
Why Can't My Mac Handle Games Free
Ask to Buy is enabled by default for children under 13.* If you don't want to use Ask to Buy, you can turn it off:
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing, and tap the child's name. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud > Family, and tap the child's name.
- On your Mac, go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Family Sharing, and click the Details button next to the child's name. If you're using macOS Mojave or earlier, go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family, then click the child’s name.
If you turn off Ask to Buy, the child is able to initiate purchases that are billed to your payment method without prior notification.
Your child must remain part of your family group until they turn 13.* However, if necessary, you can transfer a child to a different family group.
